I was very lucky to be asked to photograph Rachel and Mike’s wedding in Titanic Belfast recently. I’ve been in the building several times before both as a guest and for photography work but this was my first wedding. It was a fantastic day and the views from the top level of the building looking down over the port and Titanic quarter were beautiful.
I met Rachel first thing on Saturday morning at Hedonist Hair on Botanic avenue in Belfast. She was there with her mum and bridesmaids getting her hair and makeup done. I spent a good hour at Hedonist hair, which itself is a really interesting quirky hair salon. After meeting Rachel and having a quick chat I got to work and started photographing the hair and makeup.
After hair and makeup was all done we went back around to Rachel’s parents house which is a short walk away. The house was lovely and had huge rooms full of books and records, it made for a brilliant background for those last minute preparation shots and some family photos.
After arriving at Titanic building ahead of Rachel I was able to go in and get some photos of the guests arriving and Mike waiting on his bride. The sun was out and the views looking down over Titanic Studios and the oil rigs were stunning and quite unique for a wedding!
After the ceremony the guests had a chance to explore and have a few drinks while the bridal party and family headed downstairs for some quick photos outdoors. It was great to use the enormous and looming shape of Titanic Belfast as a background for the group photos. Once that was done we all headed back inside where we spent the rest of the day. The guests had a great time and it was a real pleasure to photograph Rachel, Mike, their families and guests on their wedding day.
